Celebrating World Cities Day ‘Urban Afforestation for Resilience’ in Riyadh

October 31, 2024

An insightful and inspiring World Cities Day event here in Riyadh discussing resilience and restoring ecosystems through human-centric placemaking during the ‘Urban Afforestation for Resilience’ session with Ali Albawardy from Green Riyadh, Jamila El Mir from COP28 UAE and Dr. AbdulHafiz Jones from NCVC, chaired by Hrvoje Cindrić from Buro Happold.

Fascinating exchanges exploring innovative ways how Riyadh is adopting nature-based solutions towards mitigating the impacts of desertification, helping native and endangered species to recover and repopulate to promote the gene flow in city life.

Particularly pertinent as Riyadh prepares to host COP16 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in December 2024, marking the first such event in the Kingdom.
